2017 Tokyo Motor Show: Toyota’s a busy-bee

Toyota is one of the world’s largest automakers and if sales numbers are not enough to convince you of the fact, the 10 unveilings that took place at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show might do the trick.

Toyota Fine Comfort Ride concept

Actually, the extreme reached by these products are what demonstrate that Toyota has something for absolutely everyone’s mobility needs, from the Concept-i WALK (a modern 3-wheeles Segway type thing) to the Sora (a 79-seat fuel-cell powered bus). Those of particular interest are the Fine-Comfort-Ride concept, the TJ Cruiser concept and the new Toyota Century.

2019 Toyota Century

There’s no mistake on that last one. The Toyota Century is one of the most luxurious cars Japanese consumers can buy with jumping into a Bentley, Mercedes or Rolls-Royce. Actually, this car is steeped in Japanese tradition and is a staple of prestige on the streets of Tokyo. The car’s been on the market for over 40 years and this is only its 3rd generation.

2018 Toyota Century

Replacing the previous V12 engine (no lie) is a hybrid powertrain borrowed from the LC500h, namely a 5.0L V8 and attached hybrid system. The new car measures more than 5.3 meters in length and can cost the equivalent of $100k USD!

The car’s retro-modern exterior design is a timid evolution of the 2nd generation car t5hat was introduced 20 years ago. Although the seats are not leather covered (it’s actually 100% wool) in this vehicle, the rear perches feature a massaging function, are power adjustable and include a front seatback foot rest.

Toyota Tj Cruiser Concept

If the name sounds like a cross between a Jeep TJ and the Land Cruiser, well you might be onto something. According to Toyota, the “T” stands for “Toolbox” while the “j” stands for “joy”, the two letters coming together to describe a vehicle capable of work and play. Styling-wise, the Tj is reminiscent of the FT-4X concept unveiled in New York earlier this year however in a much more production ready form.

Fine-Comfort-Ride concept

It is quite possible that Toyota’s seen the future. Upon first glance, it’s difficult to accept the F-C-R concept as a luxury vehicle but when the true nature of comfort is considered, this vehicle turns out to be brilliant.

Motivated by a power fuel-cell and associated electric motor, this vehicle can accommodate up to six passengers in utmost serenity and comfort. The seats are multi-adjustable and flexible while displayed information can be accessed throughout the car on the windows for example. Being an electric vehicle means it will be quiet and the autonomous driving function will ensure a relaxing travel experience for all.

This vehicle is quite large at nearly 5 meters in length, 2 meters in width and with a wheelbase just shy of 3.5 meters.
