Even if carmakers are still pouring large sums of cash into large and extra-large sport utility vehicles, the smart money is on compact crossovers. Be it for cramped urban areas, smaller families or to reduce one’s emission footprint, these vehicles suffer no other compromises.
Actually, they are obviously tighter on the inside. Even so, the XC40 will comfortably carry four adults and a fair amount of gear in the boot with no fuss. The seats are comfortable and beyond that, Volvo’s not cut corners when it comes to quality. The XC40’s cabin is beautifully crafted with lovely materials and attention to details. What’s more, the level of on board technology can be, depending on trim, on par with its larger more expensive siblings.
Powering the 2019 Volvo XC40 will be the T5 version of Volvo’s Drive-e family of boosted 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engines. Here, it will produce 248 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque which makes it the most powerful in its category for the price. Combined with the standard 8-speed automatic and AWD, performance should impress, as should fuel economy ratings.
We’ll actually find out more first-hand very soon as we will be heading to Spain to test drive the new Volvo CUV. At the moment, we can tell you that the base price is of $39,500 and that it will arrive in showrooms come next spring.
