2/3 Hondas to be electrified by 2030

Honda is no stranger to hybrid and electric vehicles. They, along with Toyota, were among the first mass-production OEMs to provide the average consumer with a hybrid vehicle. The Saturn EV1 is a whole other story…

In a recent press meeting in Tokyo, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. President & CEO Takahiro Hachigo brought up the company’s plan that involves electrifying in one way or another up to 2/3 of their entire line-up. A proprietary plug-in hybrid system will provide the bulk of the powertrains for these future products while EVs and FCVs will also become far more commonplace.

To achieve this goal, the Japanese company put together a research and development arm called the Electric Vehicle Development Division last October. IF we can be sure of anything, it’s that Honda will engineer and develop viable and sustainable solutions and technologies in to achieve this fairly lofty goal. In fact, a dedicated EV will go on sale in China in 2018 while other countries could see an EV added to showrooms in the near future.

We’ve already seen what Honda can do with the new Acura NSX hybrid. The question is now which vehicles will receive the treatment next. The HR-V, CR-V and Pilot would be excellent candidates, however, from one car lover to another, if the S2000 were to make a comeback, please make it a conventional ICE car. Please. Just for this one, please…

Honda also has similar plans for their motorcycle division including the launch of an upcoming electric scooter next year.
