It looks like earlier reports that either (or maybe both) Sabine Schmidt and Chris Harris were going to be joining Chris Evans and The Stig as the new hosts (well, if you can call Stig that) of BBC’s Top Gear, were premature. The show, scheduled to air its 23rd season in May of this year, has recently added—according to the BBC—Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey on the popular Friends sitcom, as the second (or third, again, depending on whether or not we’re including The Stig) host of the popular car show.
It may come as a bit of a shock; LeBlanc is not British, he hasn’t had any experience in reality TV before and his pet sitcom project, Joey, was first suspended, then reprised, then cancelled after just two seasons.
Having said that, he is a massive car guy and currently holds the best time on Top Gear’s Star in a Reasonably Priced Car scoreboard—a blistering 1:42.1 in the Kia Cee’d—has spent some time at the wheel of a race car in the Toyota Pro-Celebrity series and admitted on the show that he has owned numerous high-performance cars.
Of course, The Stig notwithstanding, chances are the series is going to need a third host; perhaps we’ll be seeing Schmidt or Harris after all.
