Those of us who are in the market for a new vehicle will generally spend hours trying to find the perfect car for their needs. That means that we will go over a bunch of automotive reviews, read all of the comparisons we can, ask our neighbors and friends, and visit various dealerships.
That said, the most important part of the buying process is when you get behind the wheel. That’s the test drive, and it is the only way you can really know if you will like a particular car or not. In order to make the most out of your test drive, there are a key steps you need to undertake.
The first step is to make sure you are comfortable behind the wheel. Remember that this is a new car, and you will be driving it in an area you probably do not know that well. Therefore, make sure you adjust your seats, steering wheel, and mirrors before you leave for the test drive.
Then, ensure that you know where all the controls are, and how the infotainment and various technologies work. This is information you can get before you leave for the test drive with a full demonstration at the dealer.
Finally, when you are on the road, focus on three specific areas: comfort, performance, and visibility. Drive in the city and on the highway and see how comfortable and quiet the car is in these situations, how well you can see out the sides and the back, and how the throttle and the brake respond.
