The latest on the next Toyota Supra and BMW Z4

Information and details continue to trickle in on the co-developed sports cars. As you may or may not know, the next generation Toyota Supra, a car made very famous by the late Paul Walker in the Fast & Furious franchise, is slated for a comeback.

This round however, Toyota will not be alone in creating the car. The Japanese giant did a similar thing with the excellent Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 a few years back; that worked out beautifully. Like the GT86, the Supra will be a Toyota in body and name only with all other components bearing the BMW logo.

The next Supra will therefore feature BMW powertrains, namely the 195 horsepower 20i (EU-only), 255 horsepower 30i, and 335 horsepower 40i. For the moment, a high-output 380 horsepower version of the 40i will be reserved for the Z4 M40i. Beyond this, we know that a manual transmission will not be offered.

The new BMW Z4 is expected for the 2019 model year which means we should be witnessing an unveiling in the coming months. By all accounts, the Supra should arrive at the same time
