The Nissan Murano is the next Nissan crossover to get hybridized, after the Rogue underwent a similar transformation, although it’s only been seen in Japan up to this point.
Nissan revealed the Murano hybrid at the Shanghai Auto Show, in an effort to capitalize on the expanding hybrid market.
Nissan hasn’t yet revealed full details regarding the powertrain, but we do know that the Murano Hybrid will have a four-cylinder 2.5-litre supercharged engine paired with a lithium-ion battery and electric motor controlled by a dual-clutch system. The system helps decide which motor—the electric, the gas, or both—is powering the Murano. Performance should be similar to Muranos equipped with Nissan’s 3.5L gas V6.
For now, Nissan is saying that only China will get the Hybrid Murano. They also said the Rogue hybrid will be coming to the U.S.; Nissan isn’t confirming either vehicle’s arrival in Canada, but the alternative-power market continues to gain momentum here, suggesting at least one of either the MNurano Hybrid or Rogue Hybrid will be arriving in our fair country sometime in the future.
