The Cadillac ATS and I have a few things in common. On its own, it’s brilliant. When in a crowd that includes the Audi A5, BMW 4 Series, Mercedes C-Class coupe and Infiniti Q60, it doesn’t shine as brightly.
The ATS, be it the sedan or coupe, is always a pleasure to drive. My tested coupe features the delightful 3.6-litre V6 that turns the ATS into nothing short of a rocket. With 335 horsepower and 285 lb.-ft. of torque, this compact luxury coupé makes short work of any type of acceleration. The 8-speed automatic transmission is perfectly in tune with the engine’s powerband, and is always at the ready. With AWD, this car turns out to be an ideal all-season posh and quick mode of transportation.
Caddy’s current design language is unique, and special. I reckon it’ll be looked back upon in a similar fashion to how we perceived the crazy fins era of the 50s and 60s. The car is very handsome and the cabin is more or less the same. Some of the HVAC and audio controls are awkward, necessitating repeated gestures to respond but overall, the interior is a lovely place to be. Cadillac CUE, the brand’s HMI system, is rather good and the level of premium equipment is on par with the competition, and at a competitive price.
In conclusion, the two of us are best discovered on our own, or perhaps even together. You’ll discover personality, good intentions and handsome smiles.
