Subaru WRX STI Type RA and BRZ tS coming to Canada

If, like me, you were wondering if STIs latest introductions were coming to Canada, then rejoice as they are! However, make haste if you intend on purchasing one of these sweet Subies as only a handful will be made available.

Official numbers for Canada have yet to be announced but we do know that the US will have 500 of each. Based on those figures, expect that no more than half those numbers for the Great White North.

What am I going on about? Read the following:

First, the BRZ tS (tS stands for tuned by STI). Arguably the best driving Subaru, the BRZ  will now get even better thanks to the addition of STI-tuned front and rear SACHS dampers and coil springs. Furthermore, it will get 18” lightweight STI wheels wrapped with 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Grip and turn-in will reach new heights meaning more speed through apexes. Thankfully, Subaru’s also throwing in Brembo brakes at all four corners to keep things in check.

The non-mechanical improvements include a carbon-fiber spoiler and more aero and unique details at either end. Black leather and Alcantara are featured throughout the cabin while red contrast stitching brings it all together.

And no, there is no power output increase for this car. If you’ve ever driven a BRZ, you’ll understand why this is a good thing.

And second, the new WRX STI Type-RA (stands for record attempt). The good news is that this one will get an output boost. The increase is not yet official however the addition of an STI-specific air intake, high flow performance exhaust, retuned ECU and stronger pistons will contribute to more oomph.

To go along with these mods are a revised 3rd gear and short-throw setup for the 6-speed manual box. Furthering the real improvements to the car are a carbon fiber roof panel, 19” forged BBS wheels and a retuned inverted front struts and rear double wishbone Bilstein suspension. Brembo brakes with silver 6-piston front and 2-piston rear calipers clamp down on cross-drilled discs.

Pricing, numbers and arrival dates will be shared later this year.
