The unveiling of the new 2015 Ford Mustang last week was one of the most important events of the year. After-all, the Mustang is an icon of the automotive industry and the launch of the latest generation of the famous Pony Car, the seventh generation, was long overdue.
The Ford Mustang is a car that has always focused on performance rather than fuel economy. That being said, the new 2015 Mustang will be equipped with a four-cylinder 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine which should provide interesting performances while almost certainly being more fuel-efficient than models powered by V6 and V8 engines .
Ford has not disclosed the exact power of the EcoBoost engine, but it is estimated at 300 horsepower while torque should be about 305 lb-ft . The U.S. manufacturer did not disclose fuel consumption numbers for the new turbocharged engine.
A Hybrid Mustang?
In an interview with the website GoAuto at the launch of the 2015 Ford Mustang in Australia, Bob Fascetti, Ford’s engine boss, said that U.S. manufacturer could eventually offer Mustang powered by a hybrid or (even) an electric engine.
Mr. Fascetti noted the importance of providing fuel-efficient cars, even with models that better known for their performance factor. Nine and 10-speed automatics could also join the Mustang line-up in the future.
