Toyota unveils all-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback

Announced today, the new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback that we will see for the first time next week at the New York International Auto Show means the end of the Corolla IM, and by the same token the association that still existed with Scion which disappeared in 2016.

The Corolla IM, previously the Scion IM, was added to the Corolla range two years ago. It was a hatchback model that, despite its name, shared very little with the Corolla sedan and was ultimately not really competitive in the compact hatchback segment.

The new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is a North American version of the Toyota Auris presented at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. It has a dynamic and sporty silhouette that should be well received and all models will be equipped with the latest generation of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 safety system.

The latter includes several driving assistance technologies such as intelligent cruise control, the lane departure warning and prevention, and automatic braking.

A 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine will be standard. Power numbers have yet to be announced. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching (yes, rev-matching in a Corolla).

The other option will be a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). An eight-inch central screen with Apple CarPlay is also announced. The Toyota Corolla Hatchback will arrive on the market this summer.
