Now this makes an enormous amount of sense so let’s get right into it. Honda is partnering with CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology), China’s biggest battery maker, to develop a small subcompact electric car for the global market.
The details so far available state that the car would have an $18,000 USD starting price to go along with a 300-km range. If this is a real 300-km range, then it’s going to eclipse almost everything currently on sale now. This range is more than likely the result of the Chinese standard calculation. We’re not certain what that translates into for North America but at this price, half that amount would fly. Reportedly, the plan would be to produce upwards of 100,000 units a year starting in 2020 which could, in part, also explain the projected price.
We’re not certain either if the Fit-based car has anything to do with the retro-cool “Urban EV Concept” from last year but we do hope Honda keeps its promise produces a car like it in 2019.
